A big part of building an online business is having the right mindset. Wait, what? You thought it was just setting up a website and writing a few posts? Nuh uh, an online business is still a business, so you need to treat it as such.
An entrepreneurial mindset is one of the most important things that you will need when it comes to success in this online world of ours.
There will be setbacks, you will make mistakes and I can guarantee that you will want to chuck it all in at least once (but most likely more). But, if you have the right mindset, you can overcome these challenges, learn from them and get back up again.
Think of mistakes as learning opportunities. Sounds cheesy, right? But as they say, the biggest learning comes after the hardest climb. Or something to that effect. These mistakes could be as little as setting up your theme wrong (been there, done that) to having a launch failure (been there, done that). Mistakes aren’t a bad thing unless you give up over them or don’t learn something new.
I’ve learned from each and every mistake along the way and grown from them. If you have the right attitude, you will too. Examine where you went wrong, what you could do better next time and how to tweak your strategy or approach then try again.
As the internet says Albert Einstein said, ‘A person who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new’
Sustaining the Mindset of a Successful Online Biz Owner
People who never fail aren’t trying hard enough. They’re not putting themselves out there. They’re playing in the sandbox when the whole yard waits to be explored. Not trying is a form of failure.
So if you’ve ever failed, then congratulate yourself. You had the guts to attempt something when so many other people won’t even get to that first step. But what happens to many people when they fail? They tell themselves they were stupid to even try. They say they should have known better. Negative internal feedback can break a person’s spirit.
On the other hand, changing that mindset to one of, “I missed something. I need to try again” can change your entire outlook. The internal dialogue you feed yourself can be your greatest ally or your worst enemy.
So what happens when you set out to succeed as an online biz owner and you’re met with failure? If you listen to negative internal dialogue, you won’t get back up from that fall. But if you see failure as one more step forward to figuring out what will work, then you’ll find the success that you’re seeking.
Turning It Around
Everyone in life who has ever done anything big has failed. But they didn’t let that failure define them in their minds. Failure doesn’t have to be the period at the end of an attempt. Instead, failure can be the teacher that shows you a way that won’t work and spurs you to keep looking for a way that does.
It’s all in the mindset. If you’ve failed in some way with marketing – the surefire method you had that didn’t work – the product that didn’t sell – the traffic that never materialized – that doesn’t mean you’re a failure. It means you have to figure out what element of it didn’t work.
Maybe you went into marketing not understanding all that you needed to know about promoting and the hundred and one other details that can make or break you in the world of marketing. Perhaps you didn’t do enough homework before you launched the product. That doesn’t mean the door is closed permanently. It means that you need to hit the drawing board again with a new way of doing things.
But while you’re trying and working toward success, you have to keep your mind on the eventual outcome, not the little setbacks that are part of every business. Keep your eyes on the end goal – becoming a successful entrepreneur – and use anything that’s less than success as your helper – the thing that teaches you perseverance and a way to come up with a better method.
Something that many people aren’t ready for when they start down their path to success is just how many obstacles will be in the way. Naturally, they look at it optimistically, thinking that they’ll be able to just push down their path and end up as successful as they’d like to be. Unfortunately, this outlook is unrealistic. Some days, it will feel like the whole world is acting against you. You might be late to work because of traffic that you couldn’t avoid, then mess up something in your job, then have your boss getting onto you, and by the end of the day, you’ll be sitting there wondering if it’s even worth all of this stress and effort.
Don’t Give Up
Even if it’s not a series of unfortunate events and simply a matter of levelling up, you’ll be struggling as the workload becomes larger and responsibilities more immense. At these points, giving up seems like a relieving option. Less stress, less work, more time, and more happiness all seem very appealing. However, you need to stop and consider the negatives. There are obvious downsides, such as less money, but there are much deeper downsides as well.
Namely, you’ll be quitting on something you dedicated so much effort into achieving. As discouraging as all of these obstacles are, you need to realize that nothing worth having comes easily. Sure, you could get a part-time minimum wage job and not have to worry about much, but in turn, you won’t have much at all. In other words, not much to be proud of, not much money to spend, and not a lot of personal satisfaction.
However, if you’re able to get over the obstacles in your way, you’ll be rewarded. You’ll be happier at the end of the day knowing that you didn’t give up and that you gave it your all. You’ll also be rewarded with a job that you can be proud of, and more money to be more comfortable. In the moments when you’re beaten down by life, it’s not easy to be able to see the bigger picture.
That’s why everyone isn’t successful in everything they do. It takes a lot of self-reflection and thinking to be able to move past these seemingly unbreakable barriers. Once you get past them, in time, you’ll look back and realize that what you almost gave up over was really minuscule in the bigger picture.
Pop some affirmations around your workspace and look at them each and every day with conviction. This will alter your mindset. You can manifest your future. Think about it, if you go into something thinking that you will fail, you most likely will. However, if you go into something with a positive attitude and a no-fail approach you are most likely going to keep on trying, learning and growing because you know that you are going to succeed.
